The Higher Vibrations Collection

With a natural ability in fashion design, evident from her first sewing projects at age 11, and a talent for fine art expressed at an early age, exploration of fiber arts during her undergraduate art studies was a natural evolution. .

Expanding the parameters of traditional wax resist and dye applications, Alicia Nation developed techniques for applying subtle layers of color to silk, wool and cotton.  After years of experimenting with intricate wax resist designs, her technique evolved to a simpler and more subtle process.  Using brushwork to apply dyes in controlled application, she was able to achieve the delicate coloration and exquisite blending of colors in the higher vibration collection.

At the time this series was produced, Ms. Nation was pursuing professional opera studies in New York City, where she studied at the NY City Opera Studios, NY Grand Opera Studios and Juilliard Opera Workshop. Besides her formal study of vocal performance, Alicia is a master healer, specializing in healing with sound.

Works in this collection were inspired by the music of great composers: notably Bach, Verdi, Schubert and Beethoven. The exquisite vibrations of music of the masters lifts us to higher consciousness, hence the collection title, “Higher Vibrations”.   The works represented in this collection range in size from 36” x 38” to 2 feet by10 feet. With the exception of two paintings on cotton, all are on silk. The photo of Alicia, wearing one of her painted designs, was taken during the period in which these mixed media works were created.

Alicia holds a BS in Art Education in addition to extensive professional training in vocal performance and natural healing.
